StopTrik International Film Festival is dedicated to stop motion techniques of hand-made, spatial animation as puppet film, claymation, object or photography manipulation, animation of loose materials (such as salt, sand etc), pixilation, traditional cut-out and many more. The list of sub-genres could be complemented with such exceptional techniques as animation of lights, fire, yarns, threads. Artists' imagination is limitless and so we can be neither orthodox nor strict while defining the term "stop motion". The ultimate goal of this unique annual gathering is to admire and celebrate artistry of hand-made, spatial animation together with all the other drifters of the surreal, absurd or merry highways who are ready to pursue frame by frame illusion.

Trik Show

Trik Show 2017

Once a renowned Polish author of animated films, Mirosław Kijowicz, was asked about the meanings and interpretations of his highly sophisticated, philosophical films. Kijowicz answered simply and ironically: "I draw. You draw up the conclusions". Before we will collectively come to the conclusions, let us then ponder over the process of creation itself. As we don't intend to repeat the critic's mistake, each year we invite artists and audience to participate in an open discussion about the practice of stop motion filmmaking: technical challenges, interesting innovations and artistic tricks, that enable the authors to infuse with life and motion any material they find inspiring, be it puppet, clay, sand or coffee, cut-out silhouette or an actor performing in pixilation. Trik Show unveils an unorthodox dimension of the "stop motion" category, brings the understanding of filmmaking process closer to regular a viewer and instigates interactions between professionals and aspiring animators. The video material stimulating discussions (making of, showreels etc.) are available on StopTrik youtube channel!
