StopTrik International Film Festival is dedicated to stop motion techniques of hand-made, spatial animation as puppet film, claymation, object or photography manipulation, animation of loose materials (such as salt, sand etc), pixilation, traditional cut-out and many more. The list of sub-genres could be complemented with such exceptional techniques as animation of lights, fire, yarns, threads. Artists' imagination is limitless and so we can be neither orthodox nor strict while defining the term "stop motion". The ultimate goal of this unique annual gathering is to admire and celebrate artistry of hand-made, spatial animation together with all the other drifters of the surreal, absurd or merry highways who are ready to pursue frame by frame illusion.

[informacja w języku polskim poniżej]

November is coming soon and we are getting ready for Polish edition of 8th StopTrik IFF. We are more than happy to collaborate again this year with Kino Bodo, O!PLA Festival of Polish Animation/Animation Across Borders, Studio Trefl, Etiuda&Anima, and several Lodz-based cultural spots.

All competition programmes will be evaluated by Lodz Audience and Lodz Students Jury [link]. Special screenings include internationally praised Marc James Roels & Emma De Swaef's film This Magnificent Cake!, adventurous children film Captain Morten and The Spider Queen made by  Kaspar Jancis, Riho Unt and Henry Nicholson, Berenike Rozgonyi's documentary about Dutch pioneer of puppet animation Disney of Duivendrecht, presentations: StopTrik Panorama, 25 Years of Slovak Animation curated by our partner festival Fest Anča, and yet another children's programme coming from Studio Trefl.

Wherever StopTrik goes, we always invite our audiences for insightful examination of artistic approaches and individual technical pursuits conducted by the filmmakers who attend the festival – don't miss Trik Show on Sunday (11.11.)! 2018 edition marks also a start of the collaboration between StopTrik and Fabryka Animacji FAN, an animation creative studio that will organize stop motion workshop.

Music events and late hour entertainment are organized in collaboration with Freedom Jazz Festival.

PL:
Stałym i wręcz obowiązkowym punktem programu dla wszystkich miłośników animacji będzie TrikShow, czyli spotkanie z twórcami filmów, którzy podczas mini-prezentacji odsłonią kulisy swojej pracy.
Dzięki współpracy z Freedom Jazz Festival nie zabraknie też muzycznych wydarzeń towarzyszących.

StopTrik IFF 2018: Competitions and Panorama Programmes Announcement

Lina Dvoršak

Selection results for:

  • International Stop Motion Competition

  • The Borderlands Competition

  • Panorama (non-competitive section)

stoptrikfestival@gmail.com

We’re grateful for all the submissions that came to us from each corner of the world. Our Programme Director regrets excluding a lot of valuable films in the selection process, nevertheless we’re all excited to share with you the titles that will be presented throughout October and November in Maribor and Lodz in the frames of StopTrik competition and panorama programmes. 51 selected films trigger off admiration, reflection, sadness, shock and laughter, but never indifference or boredom. The cinema is about thrills, shivers, hopes and emotions. Animation adds up to this a radiant joy of experiencing intimate visions materializing in clay, puppets, objects, threads or coffee grains, or any other movable substance. It’s smaller than reality, but bigger than life!
